Making Mischief
Heathrow: The Book
Posted by Mischief, August 19, 2009
Ok, it's been a hectic few months pulling it all together, but today we can finally announce our latest Heathrow campaign. In a piece of brand-funded content we've appointed world-respected author Alain de Botton as the airport's first ever independent writer-in-residence. He'll be sat at a desk in Heathrow T5 for a week writing about the workings of the airport. The airport is the setting, and the staff and passengers its characters.
It's a nice story (at least The Evening Standard, Metro, The Guardian, The Times and New York Times and a whole load of broadcast think so). BUT, it's much more than a story - it's going to be the first Mischief book, which will be available from all good bookshops come late September (even competitor airports). Alternatively pre-order from Amazon here.
Such a cool project to be doing and big credit to Heathrow for opening up the airport to literary critique. Why? Well, as Alain says: "You might not end up liking what I write, but that seems to me less important than the overall purpose of having a writer-in-residence at a desk in a terminal. It's an invitation for everyone to start thinking more creatively about the airport, it's a way of saying that Heathrow, for all its well-known troubles, is very much a place to notice."
