National Trust: The Album
Posted by Mischief, May 12, 2010
The brief was to take the National Trust experience to people who would not necessarily consider the organisation. The solution was to work with Jarvis Cocker, best known as the frontman for Pulp, to produce National Trust: The Album, a 33-minute soundtrack of the charity covering 13 of its tranquil and serene sites (including birdsong, crashing waves and wind blowing through grassy fields).
It launches tomorrow as a free download and will also be played through the London Underground network. As Jarvis says, it's a "holiday for the ears" and perfectly encompasses Octavia Hill's philosophy for setting up the Trust in the first place:
“The need of quiet, the need of air, the need of exercise, and…the sight of sky and of things growing seem human needs, common to all men”
Let's hope it hits a media nerve.
