With football fans, managers, pundits and players glued to their screens to see who was moving where on Transfer Deadline Day, England footballing heroes Joe Cole and Michael Owen alongside smart phone brand Huawei made transfer statements of their own, subsequently inserting themselves into the wider conversation.
Owen, who famously switched from Liverpool to Real Madrid and Joe Cole, once of West Ham, transferred to Chelsea, are no strangers to controversial moves however their latest move switching to Huawei due to ‘frustration’ around the lack of performance with their old phones was definitely the easiest.
To announce the move we created a piece of content that showcased the two footballing legends speaking about their latest move, citing the ‘kit’ and ‘intelligent performance’ as key factors that influenced the transfer. However before the reveal on deadline day, the pair took to Twitter to tease the upcoming switch, leaving their followers in speculation of a return to the beautiful game, despite the fact that Owen is enjoying life as a pundit and Joe Cole has become part of the Chelsea backroom.
The film shows Owen and Cole discussing the perceived difficulties and stresses of some of their transfers before talking about how smooth the switches actually were. The viewer soon realises that they are in fact talking about the switch to Huawei and not about football.
Loads of coverage followed including The Daily Mirror, Four Four Two, Telegraph.co.uk and Goal.com.
Not bad form from the two former England internationals, huh?
